Halo 5: Guardians’ story will not be expanded through downloadable content, according to creative director Josh Holmes.
Speaking to Red Bull, Holmes said, “While we're always looking for new ways to expand the Halo universe, we do not currently have any plans to release future campaign content for Halo 5: Guardians.”
Halo 5: Guardians was released exclusively on Xbox One earlier this week and many critics pointed out the anti-climactic ending to the game’s story. While it may be anti-climactic, Holmes believes that there is a lot of value in the campaign given the average length of a single playthrough.
"The length of Halo 5: Guardians campaign is nearly twice that of Halo 4, based on average playtime in user research testing," Holmes said, noting that playtime varies depending on the player, difficulty level, and more.
While Holmes has ruled out current plans for DLC for Halo 5’s campaign, 343 Industries will undoubtedly be supporting the game’s online multiplayer during its lifespan. Though, that will hopefully be more than just microtransactions via REQ packs.
In other Halo 5 news, 343 Industries’ Frank O’Conner recently expressed interest in a Halo game without guns, one where a team of scientists “do a xenoarcheological expedition to the original Halo ring,” for example.
