When I was eight years old, if you'd told me that one day Nintendo and Sega would so routinely be working together to bring Sonic the Hedgehog to Nintendo systems, I'd have punched you in the face with my tiny little fists. But these days the marriage of Nintendo and Sega is just my reality, and as it turns out, a very fun one at that! Today Sega debuts 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the Nintendo 3DS. You can now get the original Sonic the Hedgehog 2, rendered in 3D, for $5.99. It brings with it a new Ring Keeper Mode as well as Stage Select, an improvement over the old days of starting over from Level 1.
In addition to Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sega is also rolling out a set of themes for the 3DS today. The first two in a series of themes, Sega Genesis and Game Gear are now available for purchase for $1.99. At a later date Sega will also be rolling out themes for Sega Master System, Sega Mark III, Sega Saturn, Hi-Tech Sega (an 80s style Japanese arcade machine), Sega SG-1000 and Sega Dreamcast.
