Fallout 4’s Dogmeat Brought to Life by Developer’s Dog

September 21, 2015 by Michael Fossbakk

Check out the real-world Dogmeat.

Dogmeat, one of about a dozen companions in Fallout 4, is designed and modeled after leader level designer Joel Burgess’ own German Shepherd, River, Bethesda announced today in a behind the scenes video.

The video shows members of the Fallout 4 development team capturing audio and video of River to later be used in the game for the canine companion Dogmeat.

In a separate video recorded at E3 2015 on Bethesda’s live stage, game director Todd Howard discusses Dogmeat and some of the other companions available to the player in Fallout 4 such as Mister Handy and Preston Garvey.

In other Fallout 4 news, Bethesda recently announced a season pass for the game that will cost $30, however, the developer isn’t quite clear on what that DLC will be yet. Fallout 4 will also receive regular free updates as Bethesda has done with their other games. Additionally, the actor that loaned his voice for Three Dog, a DJ on Galaxy News Radio in Fallout 3 will not be returning for Fallout 4. Actor Erik Todd Dellums wrote on Twitter that he wasn’t asked to audition for any role, though that tweet has been deleted.

Fallout 4 will be available on Nov. 10 for Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4.
