Romanceable Companions Coming to Fallout 4

July 24, 2015 by Michael Fossbakk

The QuakeCon 2015 Fallout 4 panel just wrapped up and it provided a few new details on the game, including commands for Dogmeat and romanceable companions, according to PC Gamer, which was live-tweeting the panel.

Speaking at the panel, game director Todd Howard announced that there will be around a dozen companions for players to romance in Fallout 4. Only one companion can join you in your journey at any given time, but every companion will be romanceable regardless of gender.

Panel-viewers were shown gameplay footage that included two potential companions: the already-announced Preston Garvey from The Commonwealth of Minutemen, and a woman named Piper who runs a local newspaper from what used to be Boston’s Fenway Park, but is now Diamond City.

A full list of details from the panel can be found below:

  • Dogmeat can be given commands such as retrieving objects for the player and looting enemies.
  • The leveling system has been reorganized so that perks are tied to S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats instead of levels. Having a high S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat will provide players access to advanced perks from the start.
  • Terminal hacking and lockpicking mini-games from Fallout 3 return.
  • There will also be a dozen companions available in the game and each is romanceable.
  • Codsworth, the Mr. Handy robot, is voiced by Stephen Russel (Garret in the original Thief game).
  • Thousands of names have been pre-recorded, which means you can name your character Angela, McFly, or FartFace.

Fallout 4 will be released on November 10 on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
