In a recent Tweet, Deltarune and Undertale developer Toby Fox told fans that the development of Chapter 3 was “going well”.
It makes sense that fans would appreciate the reassurance, after all Toby Fox is known for his eccentric release schedules (the first chapter of Deltarune was stealthily released as a simple customer satisfaction survey for Undertale). It took over three years for the second chapter to release after the first one.
Fans are currently unsure what to expect from the third chapter of Deltarune. Chapter 2 saw a sharp increase in both the quality and depth from the original chapter.
These changes included more secrets and more routes, the latter being considered almost standard for a Toby Fox game after Undertale had three different endings based on your actions throughout the game.
But while Deltarune may be including multiple routes and endings through the individual chapters, Toby Fox said in a 2018 post that the game will only have a single ending. However things change and it’s unsure if his words in 2018 still hold true for his current vision for the project.
There’s also the possibility that Toby’s comments have been misleading. While Deltarune is proclaimed to be a separate story from Undertale, the way characters are re-used, the way secrets have been left unanswered from Undertale, and even the fact that Deltarune is an anagram of Undertale has encouraged fan theories that not everything is as it seems.
But with development “going well” fans are hopeful that chapter 3 of Deltarune will be releasing sooner rather than later, Toby’s strange “concept art” not withstanding.
If you’ve missed the first two chapters, Deltarune is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.
