Back in January 2017, Leslie Benzies announced a brand new IP. The former president of Rockstar North was known for working on some of the studio’s most beloved titles, from Grand Theft Auto V to Red Dead Redemption. In 2016, his name topped headlines after he sued Take-Two for $150 million after Benzies claimed that the company terminated his contract while he was on a sabbatical.
Benzies’ new IP Everywhere has been shrouded in mystery since it was announced five years ago. Initially, the project was only said to be something ambitious and highly-immersive, with Benzies going on the record with Polygon stating that his team wanted the title to be “less restrictive than other games.”
The Everywhere team at Build a Rocket Boy has unveiled a few more details for curious players to ponder as we all wait for a release date.
Dubbed a “real-life” Ready Player One, Everywhere will be an open-world AAA title with a large multiplayer focus. It is unclear whether the game will be completely multiplayer, or if it will have a single-player mode.
The title will feature a ‘multi-chapter epic narrative’ and will include user-generated content. Players will be able to create their own personal worlds, and it looks like Everywhere will have a huge social element, with some aspects aimed directly at streamers.
While not much else is known about the project, a brief plot teaser is also available on the game’s official website. It reads:
“In the near future, technology has brought humanity to the precipice of a world shifting change. There are those who want to use this technology to advantage only themselves and those who want to use it to help all humankind. Will we look to the stars? Or stare only at our feet? Will we be inspired? Or live in fear? There’s a war between good and evil in the hearts of men and women. Everything is changing. And there’s no going back. It’s a game. It’s a community. It’s a new world. The storm is on the horizon. And it is only the beginning of Everywhere.”
No release date has been announced for Everywhere. The game began development in early 2017, so a general release window may be coming sooner rather than later.
