Dying Light 1 Next-Gen Update Has Arrived On Xbox

March 21, 2022 by Matt Cook

Xbox owners rejoice.

The original Dying Light has received a next-gen upgrade for the Xbox Series X and Series S. The update was originally announced and released for the PS5 earlier this month. At the time, developer Techland promised that it would be coming to the next-gen Xbox family soon. Well, it’s now soon because the update is available for Xbox players from today. Check out the full update details below.

Dying Light Next-Gen Upgrade

Xbox Series X

Three new video modes:

  • Performance mode with 60 FPS in Full HD.
  • Balanced mode targeting 60 FPS in QHD.
  • Quality mode with 30 FPS in 4K resolution.

Xbox Series S | Xbox One X

Two new video modes:

  • Performance mode with 30 FPS in Full HD.
  • Quality mode targeting 30 FPS in QHD resolution.

Also:

  • Introduced new networking utilizing the EOS solution.

The Xbox Series X next-gen options are, at least on paper, identical to the PS5 ones announced earlier in the month. Unfortunately for Xbox Series S players, Techland hasn’t made the game playable at 60 FPS. Techland was mired in some controversy last month when the lead designer on the game claimed that the Series S’ GPU was holding them back. It appears as though that is also the case here with the next-gen upgrade for the original Dying Light. Other developers don’t appear to have problems with hitting 60 FPS in performance mode on the Series S so it isn’t clear why Techland is struggling. Especially with a 2015 game. The studio hasn’t officially commented on the issues they have been having with Series S optimization.

The next-gen upgrade for Dying Light on Xbox Series X and S consoles is available from today. The next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 systems is available now and was released on March 8.
