Disney+ is very much on fire right now, as ever since the beginning of 2021 they’ve been showing off all sorts of great takes on their characters both new and familiar. It started with WandaVision, and now we’re just a few weeks away from Moon Knight arriving and putting us in another spot within the MCU. But today, a trailer for another Disney+ series starring a new character has arrived, the trailer for Ms. Marvel. And it’s…interesting.
In the reveal trailer, we see that Kamala Khan (not unlike her comic counterpart) is someone who has their head in the clouds as she dreams of her hero in Captain Marvel. Among dreaming about other things of course. But she longs to be a superhero like Carol, and then…she gets powers…kind of?
We say that because in the comics, Kamala is a Polymorph via her being an Inhuman. But here? It appears that she gets quantum bands (a callback to the original Captain Marvel in Mar-Vell, apparently) and that puts her on the path to being a hero.
Many aren’t sure about this because that kind of robs Kamala of part of her identity. We’ll have to see for ourselves when the show arrives on March 8th. Check out the trailer below.
And here is the synopsis for the show:
“Marvel Studios’ “Ms. Marvel” is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega fan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?”
