In recent years, DC Comics and Marvel have done really well in making superhero games, delivering fresh experiences and really leaning into what it means to make a great superhero title. In many ways, the origins of it were the Arkham titles, which helped redefine the superhero gaming experience as a whole. DC Comics right now has two projects in the works that are to be “successors” to the Arkham Games and the first to release will be that of Gotham Knights.
The game takes place in a Gotham where Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, has been killed because of the Court of Owls. Now, Gotham is in more danger than ever, and so Batman in a “doomsday scenario” video tells Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Hood and Robin that they need to save the city.
The game has been teased since 2020, but it’s been continuously delayed and then we didn’t know when it would come out this year, or if it would come out at all this year. Then, randomly, Gotham Knights had its release date revealed on Twitter today:
Gotham will always need its heroes. Suit up for an all-new adventure on 10.25.22. #GothamKnights pic.twitter.com/d7oV2LbcT8
— Gotham Knights (@GothamKnights) March 9, 2022
So while it’s not getting delayed per se, it’s still going to be a wait for fans to go and play the title. This also re-confirms that the other DC Comics title: Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, isn’t coming out until 2023 despite it being revealed alongside Gotham Knights in 2020.
Regardless, the game does have plenty of hype and potential, as you’ll get to pick and choose who to play as, how to play as them, and what to do in Gotham. It’ll be more than just fighting bad guys too, you’ll get to solve mysteries, see the history of Gotham unfold in various ways, and learn more about the Court of Owls, as well as the other villains of Gotham.
