Overwatch’s Torbjörn Is An Engineer of Destruction

June 5, 2015 by Vanessa Lopa

The man is built like a tank, we’d probably get out of the way if we see him heading in our general direction.

During Blizzcon 2014, Blizzard revealed their first new IP after 17 years, Overwatch. It’s a first-person shooter that has you playing as one of their many heroes, all of whom have different strengths and weaknesses that can spell the difference between winning or losing during cooperative gameplay.

Torbjörn Lindholm is the kind of Engineer that’s built like a tank, very different from the other Engineer-type hero in Overwatch, Symmetra. This genius’s weapons systems were used around the world even before the Omnic Crisis, and he brought this superior knowledge of weaponry with him as he was recruited to join the original Overwatch strike team. Many of his inventions helped greatly in ending the crisis.

His weapons include a Rivet Gun, which he can use to fire rivets or molten metal; and he’s also got a Forge Hammer, which he primarily uses for building turrets, but occasionally swings at enemies. These turrets can track enemies, and can be upgraded using scraps collected from dead enemies. Torbjörn also has the ability to deploy armor packs, which he or his allies can use to absorb some damage. His ultimate ability is Molten Core, which activates when his personal forge overheats. This buffs up his armor and also gives him extra scraps, plus extra speed. In the gameplay video, we can see him putting up a turret even faster than usual.

This Engineer can take a good number of hits while still dealing out damage with significant firepower. We’re pretty sure we’d run if we ever saw Torbjörn coming right at us. What do you think of his character so far? It looks like Blizzard is actually pouring a lot of effort into this project, and though they ran into some obstacles, but they seem set on opening beta in Fall 2015.
