There is a trend it seems to have been making its way around different video game franchises. It seems like there’s been a move to bring out more open-world experiences. After the incredible success from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it looks like other IPs are joining in on the fun. For instance, we recently had the big unveiling for Sonic Frontiers during last year’s The Game Awards. That clearly looks like a similar style open-world experience but with Sonic the Hedgehog. Could we see Mario step up as the next big open world entry?
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was a huge hit. This title was a big change-up for so many fans, and it instantly became the best-ranking installment. Players had a large open world map to explore, but the overall formula for the game was intact. There were plenty of moments where players were solving puzzles and fighting off different bosses. Now, we’ve seen SEGA is bringing out a similar-looking video game experience for the Sonic franchise. We’re still waiting to see more of that game, but it has fans wondering who is next.
One of the recent hopes from fans is Mario has its own open-world experience. Recently, one fan took to Reddit to share what they would like to see as an open-world Mario game. You can view the mock-up of the game in the Reddit post embedded above. Of course, if you visit the actual thread, you’ll see different individuals chime in on their approval of an open-world Mario game.
Now, this is just a fan creation, and it has quite a few players interested in this kind of game actually existing. There is no official confirmation that an actual open-world Mario game is right now. Still, it does look like if Nintendo decided to give an open-world Mario title that was set up similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, then there is a fan base ready to pick the game up. For now, all we can do is wait on the actual next big unveiling for the iconic IP.
