When Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae was announced, it held so much promise. Fans have waited years for this installment, and some may have already given up hope of the game ever being released. The demo came with a hefty price tag, though: you could only get it if you purchase Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. That alone caused many to balk, and wonder if it was worth it. Many Final Fantasy fans went for it, and some even joked about buying a $60 demo that happened to have a game attached to it.
Episode Duscae came with plenty of content. The Duscae region is just a small area, but it’s there that you get your first taste of combat, as well as a feel of the general mission structure that XV will have. It promised challenging but not over-complicated fighting, while also providing you with a number of objectives that you can accomplish at your own pace. We also learn about Prince Noctis, Prompto, Ignis, and Gladiolus through the way they interact with each other.

As with any demo, there will be critics. Not everyone is fond of the battle system, camera control was poor, and there were serious bugs (some that caused players to lose save data, even). Uncomplicated fighting translated to being boring, and even the voice acting seemed off. All of this – and a number of other factors – was disappointing for the more serious players, and Square Enix has decided to address some of these concerns with the release of Episode Duscae 2.0.
Duscae 2.0, which was originally slated for release in late May, will be coming out in early June. It will supposedly include an improved battle system and enhanced camera and targeting controls. The initial release of Episode Duscae disappointed many, and we’ve got our fingers crossed that this update will make up for it.
