Visceral Uncertain About 1080p Resolution In Battlefield Hardline

February 4, 2015 by John Walton

1080p? 900p? 720p? We don’t know either.

With the public beta now live for the latest in the Battlefield franchise, Battlefield Hardline, developer Visceral Games have yet to make any confirmation regarding what resolution the game will run on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. During an interview session conducted last week by games.on.net's Alex Walker, the senior producer Scott Probst and lead multiplayer map designer Jeff Zaring were questioned on whether or not they would be aiming for full 1080p and 60 FPS on both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Probst stated that their goal was to reach 60 FPS but neither himself or Zaring were able to confirm anything regarding 1080p. Alex Walker went further, contacting an EA PR representative who informed him that they were endeavouring to get Battlefield Hardline playing at 60 FPS, albeit with the same resolution settings as their earlier title, Battlefield 4. The issue with that statement is that it heavily implies that Battlefield Hardline will be running at 900p on PlayStation 4 and 720p on Xbox One.

Suffice to say there are numerous conflicting viewpoints regarding the matter. Last year during an interview with GamingBolt, Ian Milham – the creative director at Visceral Games – said that Battlefield Hardline would run at full 1080p at 60 FPS on both consoles. Despite these claims, Digital Foundry over at Eurogamer discovered that the beta on PS4 was actually running at 900p.

With so many varying statements and claims, it's difficult to tell whether or not we will see full 1080p when the full game launches later this year. Battlefield Hardline has been scheduled for release on the 17th March in North America, and the 19th March in Europe – and will be available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Windows.
