Techland shared a brief but fun video demonstrating co-op in Dying Light. We think you will find that blowing up gas tanks will be a common leitmotif of this mode.
The demo showed four developers playing and having fun together, and a big deal of the fun comes from dominating the map. That domination does not come from being armed to the teeth like a small Navy SEALs squad.
Instead, you control and dominate the map via planning and coordination. The devs talked about their gameplan up front and executed on those plans relatively easily. So, for example, if taking out a squad of zombies required getting access to a truck, one player could take their attention while someone else goes for it.
There are missions that will give your team sufficient challenge. One such mission required chasing down a zombie, who seemingly also had some serious Natural Movement (AKA parkour) skills. Whether this is a mild spoiler on what the zombies are capable of, or just an added challenge with a non-canon mission, we have yet to confirm.
As mentioned above, gas tanks are a very valuable weapon in a team’s hands, as you can easily set up to kill a large number of zombies by making one blow up at just the right time. With constant limits to ammo, you don’t want to screw those arrangements up.
Dying Light will be released on the US on January 27, for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. You can get details on releases outside the US here.
