Robotoki Closes as Human Element put ‘On Hiatus’

January 20, 2015 by Stephen Daly

Bowling says he could no longer continue to self-finance the project.

Update: Robotoki has released a farewell video showing previously unseen Human Element footage.

Original Story: Robotoki, a studio founded by ex-Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling, is set to close and its primary game, Human Element, has been put "on hiatus".

Following initial reports from JoyStiq, Bowling confirmed the news in a statement to Polygon.

"This week we have ceased operations at Robotoki and the development of Human Element is on hiatus," he commente. "We were actively negotiating a new publishing deal for the premium version of Human Element but unfortunately I was unable to continue to self-fund development until a deal was finalized."

Human Element footage was recently revealed at The Game Awards in Las Vegas in Las Vegas last month and was first announced in 2012. The game, set after a zombie apocalypse, was headed for PC, PS4, and Xbox One from Korean publisher Nixon which made a strategic investment in the studio in 2013.

Originally intended as a free-to-play PC game releasing in November 2015, Human Element was then adapted for a more traditional premium model.
