About 2.6 Million amiibo Sold in the US So Far

January 16, 2015 by Tony Ponce

Roughly double sales of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

We're already aware that amiibo are at least as popular as Disney Infinity figures (at Best Buy), but can we attach some kind of number to that popularity on a nationwide scale? How does 2.6 million sound?

To accompany the NPD sales report for December 2014, Nintendo sent out a press release detailing the sales perfomance of its current product lineup. The company mentioned that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U has already sold 1.3 million copies across digital and retail in just the US. That note was followed by the revelation that amiibo sales in the US in 2014 were roughly twice that Smash Wii U number.

So the next time you look at those empty store shelves, take solace in the fact that artificial scarcity may not be the only reason why you can't find your favorite characters. (Also take solace in the fact that Nintendo has promised to restock Marth in advance of Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.'s release on 3DS.)
