Evidence has appeared that Final Fantasy X/X2 HD Remaster will receive a rerelease for PlayStation 4.
A listing was found in Square Enix France’s own online store, the Square Enix Boutique. The game is rated PEGI 12 and costs 49.99 euros. It also says the game will be released in 2015. The listing has since been taken down, and when asked for comment, Square Enix has stated that they are investigating the discovery, but will not confirm or deny the game release.
If it turns out to be true, this will essentially be a rerelease of a rerelease, as this HD Remaster was released in December 2013 in Japan and March 2014 in other regions. This remaster was done by developer Virtuous and was not a perfect port.
They did have better maps, texture, character models, and improved lighting and shadowing. The games also output at 16:9 aspect ratio and had trophies added in.
However, graphical errors, such as hands passing through sleeves, still remained, and you still cannot skip cutscenes. They changed angles on some of the cutscenes to get a better view of them, but the cutscenes were not rerendered, but trimmed to fit the new resolution.
Perhaps this is Square Enix’s opportunity to right what they got wrong with the last port. Would you buy these games again on PS4? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
