If you've been one of those fence-sitters who opted not to pre-order any amiibo and assumed they'd all be in ready supply for whenever you decided to waltz into a store, you've been given reason to sweat these last few days. The latest cause for the shakes is news that pre-orders for the Lucario amiibo, which will sold exclusively at Toys R Us when it releases in February, have sold-out. This means that you will have to fight through crowds in person in order to grab one off the shelf once they arrive.
This comes off rumors that the rare Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, and Marth amiibo have been discontinued even before they spent a full month on the market. Prices for the three have shot up astronomically on eBay and other places since people have learned of their scarcity. But perhaps everyone is jumping the gun a little early — in a response to a customer's concern, Nintendo Assistant PR Manager David Young stated the following:
We have not discontinued any of the amiibo figures. Naturally some are more popular than others, and stores will need to reorder these once they sell through. That said, I don't know how long resupply will take, so I encourage people to pick up their favorite characters when they see them in this busy holiday season.
This ought to give fans hope that the missing characters will return in one of the upcoming waves of new releases. Still, there's no room for being casual about the whole situation — time to get serious about little plastic figures.
