Halo: The Master Chief Collection was designed to bring the older games to newer players and give series veterans a solid shot of nostalgia. While we've had a lot of fun experiencing the first trilogies' campaigns in HD, multiplayer is a different story. All that's been accomplished here is a big mess, mainly due to matchmaking problems. When it was first announced that the HD remakes would be utilizing Halo 2's matchmaking system, fans were pleased. However, its actual application into the games' infrastructure was less than stellar.
343 Industries is hard at work fixing these issues, as the game has already received a number of patches since its release. The Master Chief Collection is currently set to receive its biggest patch yet, which the studio claims will fix the underlying problems not addressed by previous fixes.
The developer said on Halo Waypoint:
"The team continues development and testing of upcoming content updates, the next of which will specifically make improvements to the matchmaking system and flow.
"This particular update is on track for delivery this week. We will provide more details on the exact ETA, included fixes, and additional upcoming content updates in the near future. Please stay tuned to this thread for more details."
Microsoft has apologized for the troubles plaguing the game and taken full responsibility for its shoddy condition. We're willing to give them a pass here, as we know the full and finished Master Chief Collection will be a really awesome experience. It's just the wait that is the problem.
