When Super Smash Bros. for Wii U launches on November 21, it'll reach stores alongside the first wave of amiibo figures, which include Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Fox, Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Pikachu, Kirby, and Marth. In December, a second wave will arrive, featuring Zelda, Diddy Kong, Luigi, Little Mac, Pit, and Captain Falcon. Now Nintendo has announced a third wave, scheduled for February 2015.
This next set will welcome 11 more Smash fighters: Toon Link, Shiek, Ike, Shulk, Lacario, Meta Knight, King Dedede, Rosalina & Luma, Bowser, Sonic, and Mega Man. We are finally getting figures for the third-party stars! (I guess Pac-Man will have to wait until the next round.) Some of these new amiibo will be retailer-exclusive — we'll find out which those will be at a later date.
In preparation for the amiibo storm, Nintendo has updated Wii U's firmware to version 5.3.0 U. This update adds amiibo Settings to System Settings, where you register a figure's owner and nickname, delete stored data, or reset the figure to its default state.
