Minecraft is probably one the most important games in recent times. Its popularity has brought gamers together in the same way that Call of Duty has done over the years. However, its completely different nature has attracted a different crowd, whose focus is more on the creative side. The creations that these gamers have devised are sometimes mindblowing, and we really hope that the fan base Minecraft enjoys stays strong for years to come.
Xbox chief Phil Spencer recently talked to IGN about the future of the Minecraft franchise. Specifically, Spencer discussed the possibility of a Minecraft 2 and whether or not that was a good idea.
When asked about Minecraft 2, Spencer responded with: "I don't know if Minecraft 2… if that's the thing that makes the most sense."
"The community around Minecraft is as strong as any community out there. We need to meet the needs and the desires of what the community has before we get permission to go off and do something else."
"It doesn't mean that everything we're going to do is going to map to 100% of their acceptance, because I don't know if there is any topic where 100% of people agree."
"But we look at job one as to go out and meet the needs of the Minecraft community first, and then we can think about ways that we can actually help grow it. That's our sole focus."
Sorry, Minecraft fans. It looks like Mojang will likely be working on a different project for Microsoft before you can even dream of a Minecraft 2. Until then, we are sure that you will receive ample post-launch support.
