NBA 2K15 Career Positions Guide

October 14, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

We share tips on how you can play to your strengths and use your opponent’s weaknesses just right.

This is a guide for career positions on NBA 2K15.

You have the freedom to determine your play style from the onset. Using virtual currency, you can upgrade your skills’ ‘baskets’ and choose what skills to level up first.

After that, you need to choose your team, and they are defined in such a way that you can find a team that best compliments your character. In general, you will be using a lot of rebound putbacks to level up your stats and points.

You can use specific strategies against certain opponents. When taking on big but slow players, for example, you will want to Post from High, face up and disengage. If the player is small but agile, you will want to back him down and use fadeaways and hookshots. Hookshots are not very good when you are starting out MyCareer, so in this case you will want to get close to the basket.

In terms of defense, you will want to be mindful of who you’re playing against. For example, it’s safe to leave Dwight Howard open at the top of the arc, but not a player like Matt Bonner. Do not sprint at the defender to close out, because your paint ends up unmanned and other players can get the offensive boards. Instead of jumping to block, use the right analog stick to contest shots. When dealing with slashing guards like James Harden, step in and out of the paint within 3 seconds.

To guard post moves, use the left analog stick to move towards the player posting up. You will want to be mindful of post spins and upfakes. Some players, like Tim Duncan, seem unguardable, but you can do it with practice and timing. You can always front them to cut them off.

Thankfully, one game element is easier compared to last year’s game, and that is rebounding. Wait for the ball to hit the rim before you jump to rebound. Box out in case you face defense. When on the offensive, wait for a lane to open up just before your teammate shoots, and then cut to in front of your defender.
