Suda51 Seriously Loves The Legend of Zelda Echoes Of Wisdom

January 2, 2025 by Todd Black

It was his favorite game in 2024!

Without a doubt, one of the big “hurdles” of 2025 is being able to top the many great games that came out in 2024 across all platforms. Yes, every big system had huge titles that were big successes. Just as important, there were plenty of surprising titles that no one expected to release in 2024 that turned out to be massive hits. One such game was The Legend of Zelda Echoes Of Wisdom, which was announced in June, just months before its release on Nintendo Switch. The game sold incredibly well and got praise from plenty of people, including industry legend Suda51!

During a massive interview with GamesRadar, he revealed that the new take on the classic franchise not only resonated with him heavily, but it was his favorite game of 2024:

“Not that this game needs a shout-out from me or anything, but the game I probably played and dug the most this year was The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. I doubt anyone needs me to recommend this title to them, but… Anyway, I felt it was significantly different from a lot of the other bigger Zelda titles, a bit more cartoonish and closer to the older games in the series, but once you get into it, it really hooks you in. I really loved the world it was set in and all the various details, and again, it just left me feeling like ‘I got to experience Zelda all over again.'”

He’s hardly the first person to say that, and many fans loved how Nintendo and Grezzo worked together to create something truly unique, especially considering that this is the first time Princess Zelda is the protagonist in the series.

With over 2.5 million sales in its launch window, many feel that Nintendo will see this as an opportunity to continue expanding the franchise in new and interesting ways. After all, the company has done it before, as proven during multiple eras of Nintendo consoles and handhelds. Plus, with the Nintendo Switch 2 coming up, it would behoove them to have this franchise firing on all cylinders while also showing off different styles of play.

The real question here is, “What would Suda51 do if he had the ability to make one of these entries?” We’re sure he’d do something big and bombastic. Then again, given his clear love of the old-school titles that started the franchise, he might do something a bit more retro. He’s a bit hard to predict.
