Ready at Dawn shared a new making of video for The Order: 1886, this time focusing on the concept and design behind the weapons.
Generally, Ready at Dawn took liberties from historical accuracy, although they took great pains to retain the era’s gothic aesthetics. They argue that all the weapons are based on technology available at the time, but of course, for this to believable, the observer would have to turn their back on historical facts, such as how the history of guns was generally fraught with failure and inconsistency. For a video game, of course, this is fine.
Coincidentally, another PlayStation 4 exclusive, Bloodborne, is using similar themes and aesthetics. However, The Order 1886 definitely differs from Bloodborne in terms of weaponry. Ready at Dawn was willing to stretch credibility enough to make Victorian facsimiles of modern guns, including the AK-47.
They also came up with new guns based on their own ideas. For one, there is a gun that uses thermite, that can create flames to weld and cut. This thermite guns also have flare shots and highly explosive shots, that can be used together in different ways.
Another conceptual weapons uses Tesla technology electricity to produce an electric gun that shoots out bolts that seek out targets.
Overall, these weapons seem fun to play and experiment with, and level the playing field going up against the halfbreeds.
The Order:1886 is coming to PlayStation 4 on February 20, 2015.
