We didn't bring you this news when it was first announced last week, but Nintendo is pumping out Ultimate NES Remix, the next installment of its Nintendo Entertainment System celebration / minigame challenge collection. It's a boxed release for 3DS that samples games from NES Remix 1 & 2 for Wii U — this is not to be confused with NES Remix Pack, a boxed version the compiles both of those earlier titles.
Ultimate is a best-of selection containing 16 of the 28 games featured from the entire series. An image shared on Nintendo of Europe's Twitter page points out what games will be available: Super Mario Bros. 1-3, Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Dr. Mario, Punch-Out!!, Kid Icarus, Metroid, Balloon Fight, Excitebike, Kirby's Adventure, Zelda 1-2, and Ice Climber.
This release comes as a surprise, considering that director Koichi Hayashida previously explained that the games had skipped the 3DS initially because the team had difficulty adapting to the different hardware (cue jokes about NES games not being able to run on the 3DS here). At least now everyone will be able to get their portable gaming on when Ultimate NES Remix arrives on December 5, the same day as NES Remix Pack.
