The developers of Infamous: Second Son have suffered a round of layoffs, according to Sony. Known as Sucker Punch Productions, the studio is most well known for its development of the Sly Cooper series, and the Infamous series of games, which had its most recent title Infamous: Second Son released on the PlayStation 4.
Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) confirmed in a statement issued to IGN that the studio has laid off a number of its employees.
“SCEA can confirm a reduction in workforce has taken place at Sucker Punch Productions,” reads the statement.
“Sucker Punch is appreciative of the tremendous work team members contributed to the Infamous and Sly Cooper series, and wishes them the best in their next endeavors.”
There are no details on how many employees were let go by the studio, which is based in Washington.
Sucker Punch’s latest title is a standalone DLC for Infamous: Second Son, titled Infamous: First Light, and is due for release at the end of August. The game’s female protagonist, Fetch, is one of the supporting characters in Infamous: Second Son.
The sad reality of the situation is that it’s not unusual for a company to lay off a good chunk of its employees after the development or nearing the end of the development of one of its projects.
We wish those affected good luck in their future endeavors.
