EA DICE has detailed an upcoming update for its military first-person shooter, Battlefield 4, which has been out for close to a year now.
The new title update, which the studio hopes to release this coming September, makes various improvements to the game based on feedback taken from the Battlefield 4 Community Test Environment, an initiative that allowed fans of the game to provide feedback to the developers as they actively work on updates for the game.
The current CTE initiative revolves around improving the core gameplay. General improvements and tweaks have been made to Rush, Obliteration, Obliteration Competitive, Capture the Flag, and Carrier Assault modes.
Furthermore, close and medium range optic reticles don’t move with the gun any longer, however bullet spread and bullet drop are still present. This makes it easier for players to aim with these sights.
Changes have also been made to the way soldiers move, so they closely match the system in Battlefield 3. It also makes it easier to get away from undesirable firefights. Additionally, DICE has dampened third person hit reactions when the soldier previously moved his head around a lot when getting shot.
The game’s HUD/UI has also been changed up a bit to remove clutter and give you functionality in deciding how it should look.
In an effort to make revives easier to use and easier to understand, there is now a fully charged paddle sound, a UI indication on revived time, and better networked ragdolls.
Finally, the game’s netcode has been improved by making ping differences, trade kills, and kills behind cover less of an issue by lowering the time allowed to damage on the client side.
In July, the studio released the Dragon's Teeth expansion and announced the delay of the last Battlefield 4 expansion, Last Stand, which was due for release in Summer 2014, to a much later date—EA’s third fiscal quarter ending December 31.
