Bethesda Teams up with American Red Cross for ‘The Good Within’ Blood Drive

July 18, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Bethesda is using its The Evil Within property as a force for good.

Bethesda Softworks has partnered up with the American Red Cross for “The Good Within" blood drive at QuakeCon 2014. Using their powers for good, the Maryland-based game studio is encouraging attendees of QuakeCon 2014 to donate their blood. Those who do will be awarded an official The Evil Within chill pack that you can get nowhere else.

The blood drive was inspired by Tango Gameworks and Bethesda’s upcoming survival-horror game The Evil Within, and takes place on July 18 and July 19 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas.

“QuakeCon has a great group of attendees who we think will want to help the community by donating blood,” said Pete Hines , VP of PR and Marketing,  Bethesda Softworks. “The American Red Cross is a terrific organization, and we’re thrilled to welcome them to QuakeCon.”

“The Red Cross is grateful for Bethesda Softworks’ invitation to host a blood drive during such a critical time,” said Jan Hale, External Communications Manager at the American Red Cross. “The summer months are a particularly difficult period for blood collections and being a part of this event gives us more opportunities to help save lives.”

Attendees who would like to donate can sign up with American Red Cross representatives in the Topaz room l during blood drive hours: Friday, July 18, 2014 11 am – 5 pm and Saturday, July 19, 2014 11 am – 5 pm. **Donors must be at least 17 years old and meet American Red Cross requirements for donating blood, which can be found at this website.

Bethesda has additionally posted some tips to take into consideration before taking part in the blood drive:

  • Stay Hydrated! – We know there’s energy drinks coming out from every corner, but keep in mind that for every energy drink you have, you should have double that in water.
  • Smoke-Free for 30 Minutes After – It is recommended that you do not use tobacco products for at least 30 minutes after you give blood
  • Limit Alcohol Consumption for 24 hours – Try to limit the amount of alcohol you have for 24 hours after you donate blood to avoid any dizziness and adverse affects

As previously detailed, QuakeCon is a free event open to general admission attendees with the support of Bethesda Softworks and id Software.

Bethesda unveiled a new release date for The Evil Within at the event, and showcased a behind-closed-doors preview of the new DOOM.
