Watch Dogs PC has no hard lock, will run at 2 GB RAM

May 23, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

It turns out the game is very flexible – although we wonder if you really want to play it at lower settings.

We have new information on Watch Dogs for PC. If you have concerns that the game won’t run on your older rig, you will want to catch up to this one.

It was earlier indicated that Watch Dogs required 6 GB RAM to run. Of course, many recent (and tenable) computers run at only 4 GB RAM, but have been proven capable at running games. Well, it now appears that the game isn’t hard locked into this.

DSO had a source confirming that players can run it on PCs with only 4 GB of RAM, but going to Jonathan Morin on Twitter, he goes a step further.

@NourTalats It doesn't "need it" its just better for ultra setting. That's all I know.

Yes, you can run the game on a PC that has only 2 GB RAM. Of course, he makes no guarantees of it being a good experience, but people with particular setups may want to test this game on their PCs after all.

Morin clarifies further in a follow up tweet that more RAM is preferable, in particular if you want to play the game on Ultra settings. Otherwise, you’ll be playing between low to medium settings.

It would seem that playing the game at low or medium settings would mean the game could look about as good as the Xbox 360 version, and we talked about that just yesterday. If you can help it, you may not want to bother trying with your low end PC.

Watch Dogs will be available May 27 on Windows, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. The Wii U version is still in development and will be coming this fall.
