Games Workshop's Warhammer 40K is to be combined with one of the most popular board game ever in the form of Chess – Regicide which will be released later this year for multiple, as yet-unrevealed, platforms.
The game will feature motion capture animated sequences, cross-platform play, single and multiplayer modes, and a, "immersive" Blood Angels story set in the 40K universe. The narrative was crafted by Games Workshop published author Ross Watson.
Cathrin Machin, Project Lead at Hammerfall Publishing, said the game will redefine who chess is perceived. Speaking exclusively to Gameranx, she commented:
“With the core of the game being asymmetric and turn based – It was incredibly important for us to make it with cross-platforms functionality in mind. It has enabled us to allow matches to be played without interruption whilst on the go as well as at home. We wanted players to have the freedom of choosing how they play, in particular allowing them to start on one device and continuing using another.”
“Warhammer 40000: Chess – Regicide is the definitive midcore game – it takes the graphics and strategy to a new level, but allows players to react to the opponent's moves on demand.”
Players who sign up in the in the first 30 days of its launch will receive a free in-game Space Marine White Scar army.
Hammerfall specialises in PC and mobile gaming so expect to see Chess – Regicide on those platforms later this year. In the meantime, be sure to check out the official website.
