Sony fans are up in arms over the Driveclub PS Plus announcement from yesterday. Yes, the same one we just reported yesterday. What is the issue? We’ll go through the details below.
So, the key thing here is the announcement revealed a change in Sony’s messaging about how the deal works. So, Playstation Plus owners can play the game thanks to their subscription, but if they want to get all the content from the retail version, they have the option to upgrade for $ 49.99. This gives them the five locations, 55 tracks, 50 cars, and 50 tour events.
"as long as your Playstation Plus subscription remains active."
This has been confirmed in subsequent replies on that blog post. In fact, dev Chris Brown explains that the content stays on your machine even after you unsubscribe to Playstation Plus. Therefore, unsubscribing will lead to you losing access to all that content, even after you paid for the upgrade.
OK, so let’s go back. Last September design director Paul Rutschynsky revealed the PS Plus discount, his wording was
“you get the full digital edition which doesn’t require a PS+ subscription”
Soon after that, the wording on that was changed to
“when you upgrade from the PS+ Edition you get the full digital edition content”
But, it goes further than that. This actually goes against Sony’s original announcement about Playstation Plus, which promised discounts to upgrade PS+ games, and that those discounted games would stay with you if you ever unsubscribed.
This campaign did not really gain traction the way #PS4NoDRM did, but very quickly, Paul posted on Twitter that he sought out clarification regarding this issue. Shuhei Yoshida opted not to reply to fans on the issue.
Those asking about the DRIVECLUB PS+ upgrade, I'm seeking clarification on the matter.

Some fans think this may be a miscommunication, but the initial responses, and Paul’s subsequent tweet, says otherwise. We don’t know what happened for Driveclub to suddenly become an exception (a change in policy?) but we will keep you up to date on Sony’s pending reaction to this matter.
Driveclub will come October 7 to Playstation 4.
