After much handwringing about the release date for Driveclub and rumors over its possible cancellation a few months ago, Sony President Shuhei Yoshida has finally come out to announce a release date for the highly anticipated PS4 racing game.
The game from Evolution Studios, which was originally planned for release in early 2014, will be out on October 8, 2014. It’s not exactly “early 2014” but needless to say, rumors of its demise have been greatly exaggerated.
According to Yoshida, the game had to spend a few more months in the oven due to the ambition its developers had for the game.
“The problem with being ambitious is you have to be prepared to accept there will be challenges along the way. What DRIVECLUB offers has not been previously achieved in this category and because of this, the team needed more time to give you the game you’re waiting for,” wrote Yoshida.
In addition to the new date, Sony has announced that as of February 2014, Paul Rustchynsky has been at the helm of the game as its Game Director. He’s best known for his work on Motorstorm RC.
