Going to space would likely be a life-changing experience, but few people have the resources to actually jump into a rocket ship and explore what’s beyond Earth’s gravitational pull. So, we’re left with experiencing space through pieces of entertainment, and a new Kickstarter project called, “Space Pioneer” might just become the most realistic interactive venture through space yet.
Why? Because if the game gets funded, it’ll be made by real-life astronauts. People who actually went to space are trying to make a game where you go to space.
“Our team consists of world famous astronauts, engineers, designers, programmers, artists and architects who allow us to construct a game that will be the most accurate virtual representation of our universe to date,” the Kickstarter page reads. “Space Pioneer aims to be a game that is uncompromisingly entertaining and educational. Our game chiefly focuses on interstellar exploration; it is based on images and resources from the Hubble telescope, ESA/NASA, and numerous well known observatories. The player will be able to pilot a fully customizable spaceship into the vast regions of our universe and can colonize other planets beyond our solar system.”
The project has 54 more days to hit the lofty $150,000 mark. With just over $5,000 currently pledged, this game might need a bit of a boost to actually come to fruition.
