Sales of PlayStation 3 exclusive Beyond: Two Souls have passed one million, developer Quantic Dream announced on the studio's website.
The French developer commented that the milestone was reached "shortly before Christmas 2013,” and added, “A MILLION THANKS!”
Quantic Dream's site features words like "innovative" and "emotional" which link to positive user, rather than critic, reviews of the game. Our own review of Beyond by Phil was less than receptive, giving the game a 3/10 score.
In September last year it was revealed that the game cost just $27 million to develop which is small by the standards of most AAA console titles and means that sales of the game have likely recouped much of the cost already. Quantic Dream's previous game, Heavy Rain, was said to be "highly profitable" by studio president Guillaume de Fondaumiere and it seems Sony has another winner on its hands.
On Twitter, de Fondaumiere revealed that sales of Beyond stood at 70,088 in France for 2013 which is higher than the number achieved by Heavy Rain during that game's first 12 weeks on the market in the country.
Beyond: Two Souls casts Ellen Page as Jodie Holmes, a woman with supernatural abilities thanks to her connection to an entity called Aiden; the game was released in October.
