Insider Reveals How The Last of Us Part 2 Was Leaked

May 4, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

No spoilers inside.

There is a ton of anticipated video game titles launching this year. We had the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Resident Evil 3 while we’re gearing up the wait for The Last of Us Part 2 along with Cyberpunk 2077. While remakes are tough to really spoil as the majority of their storylines are already known from their initial video game launches. However, for newcomers like The Last of Us Part 2, fans are waiting to see just where the narrative takes us. Unfortunately, fans not only have to wait a bit before their ability to dive back into the world of The Last of Us Part 2, but they’ll have to surf the web with extreme caution.

You likely already have heard that The Last of Us Part 2 had storyline points leaked. It quite the massive ordeal as fans waited years for the next installment from the game. Likewise, the development team put years of work towards the project for it to only get leaked online. As a result, some fans that couldn’t wait to get their hands on a game went ahead and read through the plot and from there you have trolls that are quick to plaster the spoilers wherever they can.

You’ll see them on forums, social media posts, and of course streams. If you are wanting to avoid spoilers, it’s going be a difficult stretch of time to get through.

I think the footage that leaked is from devs playing an early build (I haven’t watched it). Most importantly, rumors of this being an act of protest by a contractor whose pay was robbed are not true. (ND actually extended pay and healthcare benefits for contractors due to covid)

What made matters worse is that there wasn’t any word on what caused these leaks to make their way online. In a recent statement by Sony, it was confirmed that the leakers were not employees from either Sony or Naughty Dog. Now an insider who has confirmed several updates and announcements prior to release has unveiled how the leakers got the content to begin with. Apparently, it all had to do with one game. According to Jason Schreier, the leakers found a means to access the Naughty Dog servers by accessing a patch from an older game that was sent out. From there the individuals were able to get all the information needed to leak online. It’s certainly a tough blow for Sony, Naughty Dog, and fans that want to go into the game blind.

While you attempt to avoid the spoilers from trolls online, you can mark your calendar for the official release date on The Last of Us Part 2 which is set for June 19, 2020, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
