Konami has just revealed new information on the Metal Gear Solid 5 Ground Zeroes mission exclusive to Xbox.
The mission is called Jamais Vu, which is a psychological term for that phenomenon where you are in a situation you think you recognize, but is otherwise unfamiliar. This one also stars Raiden, so you know something crazy is going down.
The setting is a US naval facility in Cuba. A Soviet communijet crashes in a nearby coastline, and not soon after, the US military loses contact with the facility. The helicopter has sunk to the ocean, but not before some ‘thing’ escapes the wreckage and comes onto shore. Soon, it comes to light that an entity has taken over the facility, attacking the soldiers within and taking their identities. In the army’s own words, it’s an attack from these ‘Snatchers’.
And so, in a complete Deus Ex Machina, the army somehow acquires the services of Raiden. No, not pretty boy Raiden, half cybernetic Raiden as he appears in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, from the future. This time, he seems to have a special gun on hand to take these disposable bad guys out.
The trailer ends, as vintage Kojima, with a puzzling and comical scene. Raiden takes out from a locker a giant watermelon with a badge on it, as the narrator refers to some ‘XOF’ badges to collect as some sort of rewards.
I don’t expect Jamais Vu to make a lick of sense, but at least Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners can look forward to a fun mission, worthy of Saints Row, when it comes out March 14 next year.
