Stop thinking about the next-generation of consoles for just one second and remember that Nintendo has this platform called the Wii U out in the wild. Sure, it doesn’t have nearly as much horsepower as the competition, and the sales for the piece of hardware aren’t exactly stellar – but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t great first-party titles on the way. Super Mario 3D World should be one of the biggest and best platformers of 2013, and yes, there’s a new Super Smash Bros. on the horizon. We’ve seen a few character reveals over the past few months, but now, game director Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed the existence of a Super Mario Galaxy stage within the brawler.
Sakurai not only announced the location, but also posted a picture on the Miiverse. This intergalactic stage will feature a few unique attributes that will force players to change their game plans during the match.
"Pic of the day. A new stage, Mario Galaxy!! The pull of gravity emanates from the center of the planet, so this will require using brand-new tactics," Sakurai said.
We don’t have an exact date for the latest Super Smash Bros. project, but Nintendo has confirmed that it will be coming to both the Wii U and 3DS sometime in 2014. Look for more character and stage reveals in the coming months.
