Nintendo Has Sold Over 650 Million Consoles to Date

August 6, 2013 by Stephen Daly

More handhelds sold than home consoles but home system software sales better.

The Wii U may be struggling but while sales of that console languish it has been revealed that Nintendo has sold a staggering 654.12 million consoles over the past 30 years.

Of that number, 268.97 million Nintendo home consoles have been sold – 100 million of which were Wii systems but the number also includes NES, SNES, N64, GameCube and Wii U.

The remainder, handheld consoles, account for 385.15 million systems sold by the company to date. That figure includes Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, DS and 3DS.

Sales of software across Nintendo's consoles are also massive with 2.195 billion consoles games being sold compared to 1.907 billion handheld titles.

These figures were revealed as Nintendo president Saturo Iwata promised to take steps to reform the company and reverse its current financial position.
