The story of THQ going bankrupt and selling off its IP feels like ages ago, but surprisingly, the unfortunate event happened just earlier this year. Plenty of exciting franchises and talented developers found new homes at major publishers with bright futures, but as you’d guess, a few names failed to find suitable homes. Darksiders was one of the most noteworthy franchises that was left out in the cold, with the entire Vigil Games team breaking apart due to its publishers financial woes. It took some time for most of the talented professionals to become what’s now Crytek USA, and finally, we have an idea of what they’re working on.
Mike Read, the producer on the Xbox One exclusive title Ryse: Son of Rome, has revealed to Siliconera that its USA branch is helping out on the development of the action title. There are about 30 people in this newly organized team, and while they aren’t heading the deep-in-development project all by themselves, they’re likely providing crucial development advice on a genre that they’re all quite familiar with.
That doesn’t mean that the ex-Darksiders staff members are simply dedicated to getting Son of Rome out the door. Read added that the studio is also working on its own, unannounced project, likely for next-generation consoles. They may not have a grasp on the Darksiders IP anymore, but it’ll be exciting to see what they can come up with at their new home.
