Some strategy games focus on the pure-combat aspects of commanding a fearsome army, while others lean heavily on the resource management and village-building components. Citadels, an upcoming tactics-based PC title from the folks at Games Distillery, is looking for the perfect blend between economy and battle. Gathering supplies might not sound like the most thrilling use of your time, but Juergen Reusswig, founder of Games Distillery, is here to tell you in his latest “Making Of” video exactly why you should pay attention to the soon-to-be-released title.
Every single engagement is unique in Citadels, but no battle can be won without a bit of forethought. Players will be required to construct impressive castles and fortify them with moats, walls of spears, and defensive units so that opposing armies will be forced to stay at a distance. All of this construction and army building will require the extraction and production of resources, though, so you can’t expect to roll with a fully functioning army right off the bat. If you still need a bit more of an explanation of these likely complex mechanics, the first two episodes of the series can be viewed below.
If any of this sounds like your cup of tea, you won’t have to wait too much longer to check out what Citadels has to offer. The PC-exclusive title, which will focus on medieval England at the time of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, will make its way to major digital retailers July 26.
