Following Sony's pre-E3 press conference earlier this week Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House told The Wall Street Journal (subscription needed) that in light of the massively positive response to the company's media briefing they've now raised their sales forecasts for the PS4 and warned that "demand may now outstrip supply".
House commented "the company is shifting its internal projections for the product after favourable reactions to the company's presentation on Monday."
Amazon and GameStop have both warned that they are also expecting to have difficutly meeting demand for the console upon its release later this year.
The PS4 is currently the top pre-ordered device on Amazon while the Day One Xbox One SKU is in fourth place with the standard SKU in fifth place having slipped from third.
UK retailer Blockbuster has said PS4 pre-orders are "through the roof" since Sony's press conference.
While gamers who are unable to buy a PS4 at launch due to supply will be rightfully disappointed Sony will likely be quite pleased should the console sell out upon release and generate the inevitable media headlines about the shortages.
