Last year Switch fans were overjoyed to receive EA hit title FIFA 18 on Nintendo consoles, and it seems like last year’s interest has called for another release on the hybrid console. The Switch version of the game, like last year’s version, will still not be using Frostbite engine (which the PS4, PC and Xbox One version uses), but will feature considerably improved graphics this time around.
“The intent was never to have a one-off custom engine [used in the Switch version of FIFA 18] that were never going to touch again,” Andrei Lazarescu, Supervising Producer for FIFA World Cup mode, told Dream Team FC. “It was to have that as a baseline and then build from there.” He went on to add that some of the improvements that the team plans on making are in fact already trickling in via the new free World Cup update.

That being said, the use of the Frostbite engine on the Switch has not been entirely ruled out as of yet, the team is just making use of more time to most effectively port the engine “I’m not closing the door on that possibility,” he said. “However we didn’t want to create a dumbed-down version of the frostbite engine.”
