Not long ago we told you about an abandoned Mega Man X first person shooter called Maverick Hunter that was being developed by some of the key talent behind Metroid Prime. Which was yet another FPS that was based off a beloved 2D side scroller that which also sounded horrible on paper, yet ended up working just wonderfully in the end after all.
And more recently, a key piece of concept art surfaced, which Destructoid highlighted, and as seen above. It's basically what the revised version of X looks like in his original form, directly from the artist's pen, and before being rebuilt in polygonal form. He's also grey instead of blue, for whatever reason.
He looks pretty neat, though not all that Mega Man-like. Though it's definitely worth noting that the artist responsible is Adi Granov, who is most famous for being the artist that basically breathed new life into the character of Iron Man.
His rendition of Tony Stark is what the makers of the hot live action movie looked upon as inspiration, and Granov ‘s take on Iron Man remains the basis for Ol' Shell Head in the comics to this very day.
Still, it just shows further how there was some serious muscle behind the ill-fated Mega Man reboot, which now more than ever, is sorely missed. And, perhaps I’m in the minority, but Capcom would do itself well by enlisting the talents of Granov once again for any future Mega Man projects. If they wish to go with a more Western take on the character, they may as well go all the way, right?
