Beowulf Enters the Ring as Skullgirls’ Second DLC Character

May 17, 2013 by David Nguyen

Skullgirls gets its second playable male character.

The winner of the 2nd DLC character vote for Lab Zero's Skullgirls was announced over the Salty Cupcake stream tonight. Beowulf, the professional wrestler that retired at the height of his career, is officially the 5th DLC character for Skullgirls. The news came as a surprise to some, as fellow DLC nominee Annie had a large, vocal following. This means that the ruggedly handsome Beowulf will be the second playable male character in Skullgirls. Despite having a similar weapon to Persona 4: Arena's Kanji Tatsumi, we've been assured that Beowulf will play nothing like Kanji.

His play style is said to be inspired by characters like Rainbow Mika from Street Fighter, King from Tekken, El Fuerte of Street Fighter IV, and Captain America from the Marvel vs. Capcom games. His weapon's name is "The Hurting", a legendary piece of furniture. He may have the ability to set the chair up in various locations on the stage to slam opponents into it, dive into opponents from jumping off of it, or just stand on it to give him elevated ground. Maybe you'll be able to do overhead attacks with crouching kicks while on top of the chair? He may also have the ability to throw the chair, but would have to go and retrieve it again (similar to Street Fighter's Cody).

Judging from the reactions of fans before and after the announcement, Beowulf seems to be quite popular already! Well… unless you were rooting for Annie I suppose.
