You know, maybe we just shouldn’t be surprised at this point when a game coming from Grasshopper Manufacture is a little on the crazy side. Suda51 probably has the ability to make normal, run-of-the-mill experiences, but if the latest trailer is any indication, I think we’d prefer if he just did his own thing.
And do his own thing he will with this year’s Killer is Dead, which will grace the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in August. This near-future adventure stars executioner Mondo Zappa, who lives in a world where lunar travel and cybernetic enhancements are readily available to the common man. Due to Mondo’s expertise with his lethal blade and robotic left arm, he’s often tasked with killing dangerous criminals and assassins from all across the world. That may sounds like a bizarre power fantasy, but Suda51 has promised that the game will be more about "love and execution" than simple, mindless violence.
What this trailer means, though, is really anyone’s guess. There’s a man walking on the moon, a job that can only be done through the exchange of a kiss, and a set of gigolo glasses that seem to be used for some seriously creepy examination. Once again, nothing about a Grasshopper game can be considered “normal,” but that might just be why the studio has such a devoted set of fans.
An alien invasion was revealed in the Killer is Dead trailer earlier this month, and now, we have even more information to go on before this game’s August release.
