Respawn Entrainment, the development team mostly comprised of former Infinity Ward employees who opted to part ways with Activision in favor of EA, has trademarked the project name “Titan.” The goods and services application, which was filed April 11, is unsurprisingly for video and computer game programs, video game discs, and video game software.
Since its creation in 2010, very little has been seen from this group of highly talented developers that once headed the Modern Warfare franchise. Each and every E3 missed by the group has put a collective frown on the face of the gaming public, and a statement at one point even put a 2015 date for the release of the Respawn’s first game.
"I'm having the most fun working with Respawn Entertainment right now,” concept artist Ian McCaig said. “I hate that I can't show you guys what I'm doing there until 2015."
However, a glimmer of hope has come in the form of this fresh trademark. Nothing has been confirmed as of this time, but it’s likely that “Titan” is the “sci-fi oriented shooter” we’ve all heard so much about over the past few years. It would be strange branding, as Blizzard is rumored to be working on, and playtesting, its newest game carrying the same name. But we’re working in the realm of rumors on both ends, so it’s difficult to dig too deeply into the matter.
Either way, it’s good news following the sudden departure of Jason West just a few months ago. As one of the founders of both Infinity Ward and Respawn Entertainment, the loss of West at the company seemed like a heavy blow from the consumers’ perspective. Even if we’re currently missing release dates, screenshots, platforms, and West, we can take solace in the fact that something’s being worked on in the California-based studio.
