Amongst the general concerns that Fuse will be much more dull than it appeared when it was more cartoony and called Overstrike, one question players have had is about the cover art. The box we've been shown is pretty standard fare, with lots of orange and lens flare and people walking towards the camera holding guns. But what immediately stands out is that you can't see the top of any of those people's heads. For some reason, we're shown each of the four playable characters only from the nose down.
In an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine, Ted Price – the CEO of Insomniac Games – explains why the team made the decision to chop of the tops of the characters' heads. Apparently, it has a lot to do with trying to avoid cover art that looked too silly:
“Well, part of the reasoning is when you have four characters and you want to present them on the front of a cover, we found the default positions for them were Charlie’s Angles-type poses, where it looks contrived and almost silly. And we were trying to avoid that.”
Price has other reasons, however. For one, drawing the focus away from the characters' faces makes it more likely you'll notice the Fuse weapons, and it's that mysterious substance that Insomniac wants players to pay attention to.
Fuse is due to launch on PS3 and Xbox 360 on May 28. Does the cover art put you off? Would you have liked a little Charlie's Angels flavour?
