With the recent announcement at ActiBlizzard's quarterly conference call that "Diablo III" may not be ready for release this year, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime followed it up by saying that the company is currently "exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles." This may well explain the game's potential delay.
"I think you could make an argument that a game like Diablo might play very well on a console," Morhaime said with regards to Blizzard's preference for PCs. "It's something that we're actually doing an investigation into to see if that could make sense."
He concluded his announcement by saying that there would be a "number of issues" to deal with before the company could port its games over to console platforms. Morhaime nodded in affirmation when asked if "Diablo III" would be the game most likely to be ported.
Judging from the report, it would appear that "Diablo III" may well slip into 2012, potentially with console counterparts to the PC version.
