Tech firm and phone maker HTC announced today its plans to invest $40 million into OnLive to deliver games onto smartphones.
The sum, while large enough to make anyone's eyes widen, is but a small drop in the bucket for HTC, which earned $500 million in net profit last fiscal quarter. However, cloud gaming company OnLive will more than benefit from the influx of funds. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, HTC company spokesperson Maggie Cheng said that the investment will "strengthen its gaming capabilities and help HTC tap into increasing demand for games on smartphones".
While OnLive will seeks to land itself on a variety of platforms outside of HTC's smartphones, there's little doubt that HTC intends to provide the best service with OnLive's cloud computing.
