Games publisher Ubisoft has just informed us of their acquisitions at the THQ auction. The company says that they now possess the publishing rights for South Park: The Stick of Truth, an RPG currently in development at Obsidian Entertainment. The studio is best known for its work on RPGs such as Fallout: New Vegas, and is developing the game externally. The game remains on schedule for release this year.
Additionally, Ubisoft welcomes the team at THQ Montreal into the fold, acquiring a new, yet-to-be announced IP in development at the studio. THQ Montreal will join Ubisoft’s development teams, which numbers 26 studios and includes over 6,250 game developers. THQ Montreal is headed up by Ubisoft alumnus Assassin’s Creed director Patrice Désilets.
“This deal adds experienced developers to our internal creative teams at a key moment in the cycle of the video game industry,” said Yannis Mallat, president of Ubisoft Montreal.
According to Ubisoft, the acquisitions will have no material impact on their current fiscal year.
